No birds yet, no wind—only a quiet glow seeping into the dark.

I stood still in Palmdale, Florida, while the sun rose behind the hanging strands of Spanish moss. They draped from unseen branches like old memories—tangled, fragile, patient. Each thread held the light differently, catching gold in one place, dissolving into shadow in another. Nothing rushed. Nothing asked for attention.

The moss swayed just enough to remind me that time was moving, even if it felt suspended. Behind it, the sky warmed from amber to fire, but the foreground stayed dark—protective, almost secretive. It felt like standing between what has already passed and what hasn’t fully arrived yet.

This is where Florida reveals itself best—not in postcards or crowds, but in these quiet in-between moments. Palmdale is not loud. It whispers. It lets the land speak through fog, trees, and light filtered by age.

I pressed the shutter knowing this moment would never repeat itself in the same way. The sun would climb. The moss would shift. The silence would break. But for a breath of time, everything was held together by threads—light, shadow, memory, and stillness.

And that was enough.
